In India, there are different types of flute – 6 holes, 7 holes & 8 holes bamboo flutes.
Carnatic Flutes: Also referred as Venu or Pullankuzhal, the 8-hole Carnatic flute is widely used in South India.
Bansuri Flutes: The 7-hole Bansuri flute is the most widely used across India (except South).
6 Hole Flutes: The 6-hole flute is widely used in light and folk music and is relatively easier to play compared to that of Carnatic or Bansuri.
